Chapter 1 Ministry of the Spirit

I am tired of boring church meetings! A few songs (some fast, some slow), the notices, the offering (with or without music), communion (sometimes), the sermon, a closing song, a benediction, tea and coffee. For variety, shuffle the deck. I’ve witnessed this from mega-churches in big cities to remote house-groups in the mountains of India. It’s what we do. We go through the motions because it’s what’s expected of us, it’s what we were taught, it’s what people want, or we simply don’t know what else to do. But reading 1 Corinthians 14, or John 13, or Malachi 1, is this what the Lord intended? For many things we’re exhorted to do in our meetings, we never do. I mean, when was the last time you washed someone’s feet in church? Jesus washed the disciples feet, and said, “Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet” (John 13:14). So why don’t we? And when was the last time you saw this in church? And if a revelation comes to someone who is sitting down, the first speaker should stop (1 Corinthians 14:30). Can you imagine? Or this: When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation (1 Corinthians 14:26). I want to see the kingdom.
